Sexuality & Gender in The Plant Kingdom
This body of work is a study of sexuality and gender in the plant kingdom and represents plants that do not conform to a binary form of sexuality and gender. Each piece was created in 30 minutes and this was done intentionally to symbolise the intrinsic nature of ones sexuality and gender which happens naturally and goes with the flow of life rather than against it.
Female Ginko Biloba
Most animals “male'“ organs are usually associated with sperm and “female” organs with eggs. It is interesting though that most plants have both male and female organs with the minority only having male or female structures. Some plants can start off with a male or female organ and then transform later into the opposite sex. This is true of the Ginkgo Biloba.
